This quick and easy beer bread recipe is one of my all-time favorite recipes. I decided to share this recipe because it is so popular with my friends, family, and on social media. It is also the easiest homemade bread recipe I can think of.

Beer bread is ideal for most social occasions, but in my opinion, works especially well with a braai (barbecue). I always make this beer bread when we have a snoek braai (pike barbecue), or prepare other kinds of fish on the grill. Beer bread is a great side dish that works with most grilled fish.

There is only one ingredient that I always insist on when preparing this beer bread recipe, and that is beer. Please do not use lager, pilsener, cider, or anything else but pure beer. It does affect the taste and if you do not believe me, try and experiment and see the outcome for yourself.

Thanks and happy bear bread cooking. Have fun.

Please note It is important to allow the beer bread batter to rest for at least 20 minutes between mixing and shaping. It allows the hydration of the beer into the flour and lets the gluten strands relax. Gluten is the protein in the flour and if it is overworked, it can break causing the dough to lose elasticity and prevent it from retaining its shape when it bakes.
