Oven Roasted Turkey Recipe

Oven Roasted turkey is a celebrated recipe in most homes over Thanksgiving and Christmas. Most families attack the already dead bird using different ingredients and regard their final recipe as a heavily guarded secret.

This is a basic oven roasted turkey recipe and we used this bread stuffing as the stuffing. This recipe and stuffing work with most poultries, including turkey, duck, and chicken. I am not sure about swans, because they are birds reserved for the culinary pleasures of apparently very important people. So it is said.

In fact, we should call this a roast poultry recipe, but because it reminds most of us of a special occasion, we called it roast turkey, a bird who fears Thanksgiving and sacrifices its life to the celebration thereof.

We also used a basic bird basting (tanning lotion) for the oven roasted turkey recipe. A very simple lemon, butter, and spices basting. There is no need to use sophisticated bastings as turkeys are super tough birds and the flavours will hardly penetrate the skin. The stuffing is what bring out the flavours from the inside and can be absorbed by the meaty flesh.

We worked hard to bring you this oven roasted turkey recipe of a bird, who almost got away, and is now only remembered on a recipe image. His name was Butterball and he was brave, and still is. Kudos to you Butterball. The brave one, may your kids prosper.

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 160°C (325°C)
  2. Ensure the turkey is dead and the cavity is clean
  3. Stuff the cavity with the bread stuffing
  4. Secure the cavity opening by tying the legs tightly together with kitchen string/butcher's twine
  5. Apply the tanning lotion by rubbing the bird vigorously all over with the lemon juice, salt, and pepper, then do the same with the butter. Dredge the bird in flour
  6. Pur a little water into a large roasting pan and place the bird in it. Roast, covered, in the oven, basting frequently plus minus two hours
  7. Uncover and grill for another 15 minutes or longer until the bird is tanned brown all over
  8. Honour the bird by placing it dead centre on the dining room table
  9. Give the turkey a honourable mention by saying thanks. Enjoy!
