This easy apple pie recipe needs no introduction. We had to think off our feet when the editor of a popular magazine approached our team to develop an apple pie recipe. We had a deadline of three weeks and had to think and act fast. As a first resource, we approached our social media audience and asked the right questions.

An apple pie recipe needs a few qualifications before it can meet the approval from the general public. The verdict was that most apple pies that are served today are made with two crusts, or double crusts, making the bottom too soggy. Another important point that was raised is that too much cinnamon and nutmeg is used, to the point where the fruit hardly matters. One more thing we notie is that people prefer to use Braeburn applles in their apple pie recipes, but Granny Smith apples work just fine too.


We had the info we need to prepare the perfect apple pie recipe and set it to work. We launched the initial recipe on our social media site and the feedback was overwhelming. Everybody loved it.   1. Prepare the filling
    Combine the sliced apples, sugar, lemon juice, vanilla extract, and nutmeg in a mixing bowl and mix well.
  2. Prepare the sweet crust pastry
    With a rolling pin roll out the larger ball of pastry into a 12-inch (3m cm) round to make a bottom crust for a 9-inch (21 cm) pie pan. Ease it into the pan, pressing it down gently, but firmly. Evenly sprinkle the bottom of the pie shell with the bread crumbs. Fill the crust generously with the apple mixture, spooning it in with a slotted spoon so as to drain off any excess liquid.
  3. Dot the layers of apple with the butter pieces. Roll out the remaining pastry ball into a 10-inch (25 cm) round for the top crust. Brush the rim of the pie shell with cold water, put on the top crust, and trim, seal, and crimp the two crusts.
  4. Cut pie vents into the top crust to allow steam to escape.
  5. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C)
  6. Prepare the egg wash: Beat the egg and cream together in a small mixing bowl using a fork. Lightly brush the top crust with the egg wash. Bake the apple in the preheated oven for 45 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.
  7. Cool completely before cutting and serving. Enjoy!
