Cottage pie, Shepherd's pie, or hachis Parmentier is a meat pie consisting of cooked minced meat topped with mashed potato. The difference between cottage pie and shepherd's pie lies in the meat. Cottage pie is cooked with beef, whereas shepherd's pie is cooked with mutton.

That being said, you can use either mutton or beef and prepare your own version of this mince pie recipe, either cottage pie, or shepherd's pie. For the sake of keeping the food fun police happy, we will from hereon forward, call this mince pie recipe, a cottage pie recipe.

This is a basic cottage pie recipe, some people add peas or mixed garden vegetables when cooking the mince, but this cottage pie recipe makes no mention of vegetables. You can add any vegetables of your choice if you prefer. Our suggestion would be to add the vegetables towards the end of the mince cooking process.

Tasty cottage pie recipe. If I can make one suggestion, please. When you add the mashed potato to the top of the mince pie mixture. punch a few holes with a skewer into the top of the cottage pie. It allows the overflow mixture to evaporate. Otherwise, perfect mince pie 🥧 recipe. 5.00
