Homemade Tahini Recipe

This homemade tahini is called for in our falafel recipe. While I was searching for a tahini substitute the suggestions I found became pretty confusing and I ended up experimenting with homemade tahini instead of the store-bought version.

If a recipe calls for tahini it is because it is a must and should and can not be substituted with anything else. Some recipes actually recommend using peanut butter, cashew and almond butter, sunflower seed butter, and even more bizarrely, greek yogurt.

The bottom line is, do not follow this route and settle for anything less than pure tahini. Homemade tahini is super simple and quick to prepare. All you need is sesame seeds, sesame oil, or Canola oil, and a food processor. It is also super easy to adjust your homemade tahini recipe to achieve the perfect quantities for the perfect easy homemade falafel recipe you are using.

Good homemade quality tahini is a treat for the tastebuds, boasting a subtly sweet and nutty flavor with a well-balanced taste of bitterness on the finish. There is nothing that can replace the taste sensation of pure homemade tahini.
